Cheyenne – Wyoming Department of Corrections Director Bob Lampert has announced that two of Wyoming’s correctional leaders have achieved national certification.

Rob Doty, Field Services Deputy Administrator for the southern division, and Bill Payne, Field Services Deputy Administrator for the northern division, have both completed testing to achieve American Correctional Association’s (ACA) Certified Corrections Executive (CCE) status.

Doty has over 25 years of correctional experience. He spent two years as an agent in Rawlins, 11 years as an agent for Santa Clara Probation Department in San Jose, Calif., and 11 years as the WDOC community-based programs manager. He was promoted to his current position in 2011. Payne has worked for WDOC for over 14 years. He has worked as a traditional agent, intensive supervision program agent, assistant training coordinator, and training coordinator. In 2009 he was hired as a district supervisor in Fremont County and then promoted to his current position in 2011.

“To attain the CCE certification takes time and dedication,” said Dawn Sides, Field Services Division Administrator. “I was very pleased when Bill Payne and Rob Doty, who both have years of experience with probation and parole supervision, accepted the challenge to take this exam.”

“Many of the DOC Prison Division administration had taken this exam and I am proud to say that Bill and Rob are the first for the Field Division to accomplish this,” she said. “They are true leaders for WDOC and this is one way they demonstrate their commitment to the mission and vision for this department.”

“This type of commitment to continuously update one’s skills epitomizes professionalism in the corrections field,” ACA Corrections Certification Program Manager Peg O’Brien said. “The American Correctional Association Certification Program, itself, is designed to advocate for the field of corrections. It promotes the capabilities of correctional professionals to the general public in order to enhance society’s image of corrections personnel.”

The ACA coordinates, manages and awards certification in a number of correctional professional areas such as caseworkers, correctional officer ranks, program managers and medical staff. Certification provides a nationally recognized level of excellence and knowledge for an individual in their correctional professional level.

The certification process is part of a broader goal of achieving full accreditation for all Wyoming correctional and field service facilities and offices. Accreditation is a system of verification that correctional agencies/facilities use to comply with national standards promulgated by the American Correctional Association.

Accreditation is achieved through a series of reviews, evaluations, audits and hearings and is based on ACA standards. ACA standards are the national benchmark for the effective operation of correctional systems throughout the United States and are necessary to ensure that correctional facilities are operated professionally. They address services, programs and operations essential to good correctional management.

The American Correction Association is the oldest and largest international correctional association in the world. ACA serves all disciplines within the corrections profession and is dedicated to excellence in every aspect of the field. Also included are programs and facilities operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the private sector.

Yeah I hard that they hard worked really hard with the Breining Institute to finally get their accreditation. I guess this will help them with all of the different credentials.
