| Program participants aim to lead productive lives outside prison |

Dale Driggers has spent nine years behind the razor wire at the Marion Correctional Institution on a conviction of manslaughter. On Thursday night, his wife, daughter and mother passed beneath the wire to meet Driggers inside and hear him pledge to never return once he is released. "I will take full responsibility for myself and my family, and to be the spiritual leader," Driggers said as he looked at his wife of 27 years, Mickie; his daughter, Kasey, 17; and his mother, Dixie Driggers, 78. "He's changed," Mickie Driggers said. "He's done good," Dixie Driggers added. Mickie and Dale Driggers have three daughters and two grandchildren. When asked how he felt about facing his family, Dale Driggers said he had "waited a long time for this." Driggers, 49, and 20 other inmates made the promise to their families and signed it as they graduated from Xtreme Soulutions' Operation Launch, a non-profit, faith-based community re-entry program that "empowers" former prisoners to return to society as productive family members.
