Stephenson County looks at sheriff’s budget |

Freeport, Ill. — Stephenson County officials Tuesday got their first look at the sheriff’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2013, which seeks to restore many of the staff cuts that have been made in the sheriff’s department over the past several years. County Sheriff David Snyders said Wednesday that augmenting his staff is a matter of public safety at this point, and that additional manpower is sorely needed in the form of correctional officers, sheriff’s deputies, and telecommunicators (911 dispatchers). “We’d like to get staffing levels back to where we were prior to 2010,” Snyders said. Snyders presented his initial budget Tuesday night before the County Public Property and Safety Committee. This included his budget request for the sheriff’s office and the corrections department.
