Crabtree locked down for annual contraband search

HELENA, OK — James Crabtree Correctional Center was locked down Wednesday as authorities conducted their annual search for contraband.

Becky Guffy, security and facilities operations manager, said the prison was locked down at 8 a.m. and the hope was to have the “institutional search” finished by midnight.

Extra officers are brought in to help with the search, Guffy said.

Officers “search every area of the facility for contraband,” she said, including every cell, staff offices, the kitchen, laundry and farm and outbuildings.

As of 4 p.m., no contraband had been found, she said.
