Cause of prison riot in Folsom under investigation |

California -- The cause of a riot Wednesday at a state prison in Folsom that left one inmate shot and others injured is under investigation, authorities said. The melee, which involved 60 inmates, began at 11:17 a.m. in a maximum-security yard at California State Prison-Sacramento, adjacent to Folsom State Prison, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Officers recovered four weapons made by inmates, officials said. Officers shot six rounds from a Mini-14 rifle while trying to stop the riot, authorities said. One inmate was shot and taken to an area hospital. Twelve additional inmates were taken to hospitals with stab and slash wounds, as well as head injuries, officials said.
