Horry Co. program helps inmates transition into community |

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A brand new program is being developed to help inmates transition back into the community. The Horry County Sheriff's Office is working with the South Carolina Department of Corrections on a pilot program that will save tax dollars, and keep you safe. With this program, inmates serving time in a facility will be able to transfer into a reentry program before stepping back into the community. Officers who work in the program say once inmates are released back into Horry County, it's a crucial time period they're trying to focus on. "They're pretty much starting over again," said Gereth Beshears, who runs the current jail diversion program. "So they're essentially trying to get their life back together.
