| DJJ to privatize residential facilities |

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice said Monday it will privatize its five remaining state-run residential facilities during the coming year. The facilities are the Pensacola Boys Base in Escambia County, Duval Halfway House in Duval County, Britt Halfway House in Pinellas County and Les Peters Halfway House and Falkenburg Juvenile Correctional Facility, both in Hillsborough County. DJJ said 213 agency employees work at the facilities. It said 95 percent of beds in residential facilities are already run privately run and that privatizing the remaining facilities comes amid declining commitments and legislative direction to reduce state-operated beds before privately run beds.
