Number of juveniles in jail declines throughout New Jersey |

As two juveniles remain locked up at the Camden County Youth Center at Lakeland for the killing of 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale, a new report says the number of juveniles in jail is on a dramatic decline in New Jersey. Fewer young people in New Jersey are being locked up for offenses they commit, according to a report issued Wednesday by Newark-based children’s advocacy group Advocates for Children of New Jersey. The “Kids Count Special Report: Juvenile Justice” states that in 2011, the state incarcerated nearly 7,000 fewer juveniles than it did prior to the start of an initiative to bring down what the ACNJ deemed to be too much use of juvenile detention.
