Pittsburg, PA - Allegheny County's Jail Collaborative has received a third year of federal funding for its effort to keep inmates from returning to prison.

The $1.2 million anti-recidivism grant will come from the Department of Justice's Second Chance program. The Jail Collaborative, formed in 1999, is a cooperative effort of the county jail, Department of Human Services, Health Department and Court of Common Pleas. "The Allegheny County Jail Collaborative has a proven track record of reducing recidivism by giving inmates the tools they need to succeed after incarceration," county Executive Rich Fitzgerald said.

The third-year funding is $370,000 larger than this year's $800,000 award. It will be used to support the county's participation in a national cross-site evaluation. County officials will share the results of local programs and learn from the experiences of other communities.
