Middlesex Sheriff Koutoujian, National Sheriffs’ Association Gather National Experts to Discuss Correction Officer Wellness WHAT: Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) are bringing together experts from across the country Monday, October 29, in Lowell, Mass. to begin a national dialogue on the causes and effects of workplace stress for corrections officers. Available research shows the average correction officer will not live to see their 59th birthday, that he - or she - is vastly more likely to take their own life, and a large percentage will experience some level of Post Traumatic Stress. While several small studies have been done to look at the role of job-related stress in the lives of corrections professionals, there has been no national research in more than a decade.
