Free event gives information about service to people recently out of prison

A free event to introduce people recently released from prison to services available to them will be held Saturday at the Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ.

The event, called "A Welcome Home Weekend," is sponsored by Hayward-based organizations Glad Tidings and Cristo La Roca, with support from Alameda County Health Services and Healthy Communities Inc.

Organizers say the event is aimed at those making the transition from prison to society. A mobile medical unit will be on scene for screening and testing. and a representative from Healthy Oakland will be available for counseling about public benefits, housing right and employment readiness.

The event will run from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ, 27689 Tyrell Ave., Hayward.
