| Muskegon Correctional Facility to pilot faith-based program to reduce recidivism |

MUSKEGON, MI – Muskegon Correctional Facility will open a faith-based dormitory to try to keep inmates from returning to prison, the first of its kind in Michigan. It had been closed since May 2011, when the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections took back 1,100 inmates it had been housing in MCF under contract with the Michigan corrections department. Ken Stevens | MLive.com Inmates who want to participate in the program need to have gone at least six months without serious violations of prison rules, have to be within 24 to 48 months of their release date, have to qualify to be housed at a medium-security facility and can’t be affiliated with any prison gangs, Warden Sherry Burt said. They also need to fill out an application with the chaplain in their home facility, which will be reviewed by the Muskegon chaplain before the inmate is approved for transfer, she said. Read More. |
