| CA Recidivism Rate Declines |

|
California's recidivism rate among former prison inmates remains high, but things are improving. A new report by the California Department of Corrections found that the percentage of former inmates who returned to prison in the three years after their release had declined from 65% for inmates released in fiscal year 2006-07 to 63% for inmates released in 2007-08. During that same time, California also saw a decrease in the number of former inmates convicted of new crimes. Prison officials say updated methodology is helping. Among the new tools officials are using is a “22-item actuarial risk prediction instrument” developed to predict an inmate’s potential to commit more crimes. Read More. |
