Health care in question at county jail, County Correctional Facility-South |

MILWAUKEE — There is a call to hold the Milwaukee County sheriff in contempt of court over health care at the Milwaukee County Jail and the County Correctional Facility-South, formerly known as the House of Correction. The case goes to court Tuesday. The American Civil Liberties Union and Legal Aid Society said the jail and the correctional facility have become increasingly dangerous for incarcerated people with serious mental and physical health conditions, and they want a judge to order the sheriff held in contempt until conditions improve. Ever since a class-action suit brought by prisoners in 1996, a court-appointed monitor has reviewed medical and mental health services at the Milwaukee County Jail and correctional facility.
