A sexual offender who left Texas without permission holed up in a mobile home Tuesday afternoon, refusing to emerge for deputies trying to serve an arrest warrant and threatening to shoot anyone who came near. He was arrested at 3:38 p.m. after members of the Polk County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team used tear gas to get him to come out of the house. Albert Davisson, 64, was wanted on parole violation charges, sheriff's officials said. He had been staying with his daughter and grandson in her Auburndale mobile home after leaving Texas while under parole board supervision. On Tuesday, The Ledger could not find any indication that Davisson had registered with Florida's sexual offender program. Mark Bevilacqua, with the Florida Department of Corrections, said the state had rejected Davisson for supervision. Davisson was released from a Texas prison Aug. 5 after serving time for a 1998 conviction for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety's criminal records service. But soon after his release, he left the state. When parole officers learned Davisson was living in Polk County, they requested the Sheriff's Office help in arresting him. But the arrest turned out to require more than a warrant. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, about noon Tuesday deputies received the parole board's call and set out to serve the warrant. When they arrived at the residence, they found Davisson was armed and unwilling to go back to jail. At 1:23 p.m., the emergency response team was called out. Sheriff's spokeswoman Michal Shanley said that at 3:38 p.m., after negotiations failed to work, tear gas was used, and Davisson emerged from his house. He was not hostile, and he was no longer armed, Shanley said. Davisson was taken to the Polk County Jail. Late Tuesday afternoon, the charges against him were still pending. |
