A group of local stakeholders looked at a plethora of data Thursday - graduation rates, income levels, drug crime data - all in an effort reduce crime in Reno County. Thursday was one of the first meetings of the Reno County Crime Reduction task force, which was established last year through a state grant from the U.S. Department of Justice and a crime reduction initiative started by Gov. Sam Brownback. Penny Feist, program manager for the local Crime Reduction Initiative, said Reno County is the first in the state to have such a task force and is serving as a pilot program. The county was selected after state employees studying crime in Kansas noticed higher rates in Reno County, including property crimes. Read More. |
