| Vacancies, pending retirements drive overtime at area state prisons |

Despite changes in work rules to minimize overtime for prison workers following the passage of Act 10, overtime for correctional officers continues to rise at prisons in Dodge County. This was especially true in 2011 as corrections workers across the state scrambled to amass as much pay as possible prior to the implementation of tighter restrictions governing overtime wrought by Act 10. In 2011, the Department of Corrections paid about $40 million in overtime, 60 percent of the combined overtime generated by the state’s 41 agencies, according to information released by the state Department of Administration.
