A former supervisor at the Illinois Department of Corrections Warrenville Youth Center was found not guilty last Tuesday of striking a teenage inmate. DuPage Judge Perry Thompson ruled that Marriya Rice, 27, of Park Forest was not guilty of official misconduct for allegedly having committed a battery against an inmate. Rice was indicted last year after an Illinois State Police investigation that claimed she struck a 17-year-old girl in the head and face after the inmate refused to lower the volume on her radio. Rice contended last Tuesday in a one-day bench trial that the inmate had previously threatened her and had become abusive. She said that a minor cut to the lip suffered by the inmate occurred while attempts were being made to restrain her. |
