| Gang member executed for store clerk killing |

Convicted killer Andrew Flores apologized to his victim's widow before he was executed last week over a 1993 slaying in San Antonio. The former gang leader was sentenced to die for shooting 23-year-old convenience store clerk John Moreno during a robbery. The murder was caught on tape by the store's surveillance cameras. On the tape, Moreno begged for his life, but Flores shot him anyway. In his last statement, Flores said,"Today I go home to the Lord, but first I have to say something." The inmate looked at Moreno's wife and said, "I am real sorry. I took a family member's life and I shouldn't have. I hope that you can move on." He then apologized. "I'm just sorry," he said. "I won't ask for your forgiveness." "God will be my judge," he said. Flores then expressed love to his friends and relatives, including his sobbing mother and sister. He was the 13th Texas death row inmate to be executed this year in Huntsville. |
