Trial under way in case of prisoner accused of attacking corrections officer with knife |

JACKSON, MI – A jury trial has begun in the case of a prisoner accused of attacking and holding a knife to the neck of a corrections officer. Jabari Johnson, 20, is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault of a prison employee and possessing a weapon while he was in the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Blackman Township. His trial began Tuesday, Feb. 26, before Jackson County Circuit Judge Susan Beebe. It is expected to continue Wednesday, Feb. 27. Johnson allegedly used a modified razor blade June 3 to attack Officer Andrew Keplinger after Keplinger found “spud juice” in Johnson’s cell. “Yes, I felt my life was in danger,” Keplinger testified Tuesday, answering questions posed by Assistant Prosecutor Jake Dickerson.
