The US state of California has long been known as the home of many technology start-ups. One organisation is now helping bring that entrepreneurial spirit and start-up culture within the walls of San Quentin State Prison. The Last Mile, a project partially funded by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, is the only start-up training programme designed purely for the incarcerated. Inmates must meet particular requirements to enroll in the six-month programme, which educates trainees in social media, online brand management, and high-tech skills for eventual job placement in Silicon Valley's tech sector.
