An inmate at Missouri's maximum-security prison in Potosi is dead, and his cellmate is the suspect. The victim is 29-year-old Lamont Daugherty. He was discovered face-down in his cell Sunday night. Superintendent Don Roper said Daugherty had apparently been beaten to death. The name of Daugherty's cellmate was not released. Charges will not be filed until an autopsy confirms the cause of death. The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, but results may not be available for up to four weeks. Daugherty was imprisoned last year from St. Louis for armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He was originally held at another prison but transferred to Potosi in mid-August after assaulting inmates and staff. Roper said the cellmate was also moved to Potosi for aggressive behavior. |
