| New program at Camarillo youth detention facility tries to curb repeat offenses |

CALIFORNIA - Raymond Padgett and Kumar Stevenson, both 19, know they’ve made serious mistakes. They’ve been in and out of jail since they were 12 and affiliated with gangs. Their convictions range from burglary and vandalism to grand theft auto and robbery. The longest Stevenson has spent out of jail has been five months, he said. Offenders at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility in Camarillo, like Padgett and Stevenson, have committed felonies such as murder, robbery or assault. They also have the most serious treatment needs, according to officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Read More. |
