An autopsy will be performed Thursday on a prisoner who died "under suspicious circumstances" involving another inmate at a state prison in Washington Parish, the warden said. Gary Olson, 47, died late Tuesday at the Washington Correctional Institute in Angie, La. warden James Miller said. Olson was serving a 15-year sentence for drug and burglary charges. The autopsy was scheduled at the New Orleans coroner's office, Miller said. Miller said it was the first such death "under these circumstances" since the prison opened in 1983. He would not elaborate on the circumstances. "The death of an inmate is always a regrettable and unfortunate matter, and we will take every step possible to prevent another such incident," Miller said. The medium-security prison has about 1,030 inmates. |
