| Delta Correctional Facility Included in Utilization Study |

COLORADO - In 2012, the state legislature approved a prison utilization study. Twenty-five correctional facilities will experience on-site inspections expected to be completed in June this year. Among those sites being considered for review is the Delta Correctional Facility, according to State Senator Gail Schwartz. The level one security facility, headed by Warden Steven Green, has the capacity to house 480 offenders and averages 75 empty beds, according to Lieutenant Dwayne Spence. Under his direction, the facility has nine work crews in the correctional industries program, which provides assistance to other government agencies and to non-profits. “Fences often border private property and state or county roads. Inmate workers help to keep those in shape or build new fences. There are miles and miles of fences,” Spence said. “All the work crews are scheduled every week. Every worker goes out every day.” The work crews also assist with Delta County roads and bridges, concrete projects and clearing rights-of-way and work for the Bureau of Land Management. “We do a lot of things that save money for the taxpayers,” said Spence.
