The Iowa State Penitentiary at Fort Madison is on lock-down as the Department of Corrections searches the entire building. The Des Moines Register reports all 560-inmates at the prison have been confined to their cells since last week. Director of the Department of Corrections Fred Scaletta says the facility is undergoing a “total shakedown.” v Scaletta wouldn’t say what prompted the search or what corrections officers are looking for.
