FLORIDA - Longtime law enforcement officer Tracy Smith was affirmed as Havana’s new police chief at the town’s Tuesday, March 26th meeting. Joining him to celebrate were town council board members, staff, Havana officers, family and friends in recognition of his new position.

Smith has come up through the ranks in his 23½-year law enforcement career, including a couple of stints with Havana. He began his career with the Florida Department of Corrections, then worked as a part-time Midway police officer. Chief Smith came back to Havana in 2005 as a part-time officer, rising to sergeant, lieutenant and lastly, interim police chief beginning in January when Havana’s longtime chief Glynn Beach retired.
