An inmate remained at large last Monday after walking away from a federal prison camp for nonviolent inmates, authorities said last Monday. Juan Mendiola, 27, was being held in a minimum-security section of the U.S. Penitentiary. His absence was detected at a routine count last Saturday night, prison spokesman Chris Nickrenz said. Mendiola was serving an 11-year sentence for conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine. He was sentenced in November. Mendiola was described as a white male with brown eyes and brown hair. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. |
