April 3, 2013 (WLS) -- A Cook County Sheriff's deputy will receive an award previously given to such people as Muhammad Ali and Joseph Cardinal Bernardin. Joe Fiorentino will receive the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. It's a way of recognizing those who dedicate their lives to helping others. Fiorentino volunteers his time, teaching self-defense to seniors, children and others. "Sometimes you know you think you do something and nobody knows but sometimes it doesn't matter how many people know as long as you help people," he said. The official announcement will be made next week and the awards will be presented in May on historic Ellis Island. Read More. |
