Mercy Today Ministries seeks volunteers for mentor program

Volunteering is a way to give back.

To learn how, Mercy Today Ministries Pastor Sheilah Rollins invites adults to volunteer as mentors in the local prisons, a release said.

"One-to-one mentoring has been found to be very effective in the live of incarcerated men and women," she said in a press release. "Recidivism rates have shown that even one caring adult friend who visits an inmate even one time a month on a regular basis does have a positive and long term effect on that inmate's recidivism."

Involved with the prison inmates since the 1970s, Mercy Today has worked in mentor programs for the past 14 years.

"We have seen many positive effects upon the lives of inmates, as well as volunteers, who participate in our programs," Rollins said.
