Virginia Department of Corrections marks crime victims' rights week |

RICHMOND. Va. – The Victim Services Unit at the Virginia Department of Corrections is scheduling events to recognize Crime Victims' Rights Week April 21-27. The theme for the 2013 National Crime Victims' Rights Week, with which Virginia's Crime Victims' Rights Week coincides, is "New Challenges. New Solutions." "The Virginia Department of Corrections works closely with crime victims to keep them informed regarding the status of offenders who harmed them and to answer their questions about how the system works," said VADOC Director Harold Clarke. "The Victim Services Unit has more than 6,000 victims registered for notification regarding offenders in our custody. In 2012, we registered more than 2,000 new victims for notification."
