Officials: Goal of Detroit One to reduce violent crime |

Detroit could see a vast decrease in violent crime this year as local, state and federal agencies team up to target the city’s worst offenders, authorities say. Law enforcement officials say Detroit One — an initiative that kicked off last month — is unique from other crime-fighting efforts in several ways, including the level of collaboration among agencies and because prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office will be assigned to Detroit police precincts and districts. The goal is to see major reductions in gun crimes and homicides. By March 31, 69 criminal homicides had occurred in Detroit so far this year, down from 76 during the same time period in 2012, according to police. As well, there were 214 nonfatal shootings by the end of March, down from 243 by the same time last year, police said. Read More. |
