Latoshia Tillman pauses to look at 288 photos of murder victims while attending the 5th annual tree planting for victims of violent crimes in Shelby County. One of eight events being held across the state this week, sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Corrections and the Board of Parole, where a live tree is planted in observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Knowing three of the victims on the quilts, Tillman was visibly moved by the memory of her friends evoked by the images. “Having a tree planted is a living reminder for the family and friends of the victims,” says Tillman.
