Kim Gauthier stared in horror at text messages claiming her daughter would be harmed if she didn’t pay money. The text messages went on for about four hours and left the distraught mother frightened and in tears, until her daughter arrived home safe and clearly not involved in the extortion plot as implied by the culprit, who had stolen jewelry from the family. Kim Gauthier and her husband, Charles, said last week that it was Unadilla Township Police Department Investigator Ryan Hamlin who helped them through the situation. For his kindness, professionalism and dedication, they nominated Hamlin to receive an Above & Beyond Award, which was presented to Hamlin during a luncheon at the Livingston County Judicial Center in Howell.
