Mississippi Corrections commissioner says ‘sue me,’ actually gets sued

Less than a month after Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps jokingly said ‘sue me,’ someone literally did.

This moment in irony was brought to us by Myia Norwood, a correctional officer with the state prison system who earlier this month filed a class action lawsuit against Epps over unpaid overtime wages.

We had investigated the department’s overtime policies in March, finding that state prison guards have been forced to work more than 135,000 hours of overtime in exchange for shaky promises of future time off.
