Corrections budget passed by Senate; move of correctional center removed from bill |

BISMARCK, N.D. _ The North Dakota Senate unanimously passed a budget bill Tuesday with more than $212 million and 20 new staff positions for the state Department of Corrections. Sen. Terry Wanzek, R-Jamestown, said one of the biggest sticking points with Senate Bill 2015, which passed 47-0, had been the $12 million inserted by the House to move the Missouri River Correctional Center to a spot next to the Youth Correctional Center in Mandan. “We were able to negotiate changing that,” Wanzek said. The conference committee amended SB2015 to include $200,000 for a study on the feasibility of relocating the correctional center. Of that funding. $150,000 could be used for developing options for relocating the facility and $50,000 for a land use study of the existing site. Read More. |
