South Jersey jail merger: Corrections officers start job hunt with Gloucester County aid |

In one month, Gloucester County will begin emptying prisoners from its jail in Woodbury, and sending inmates to correctional facilities in Cumberland, Salem and other counties. There’s also a ticking clock for many of Gloucester’s soon-to-be pink-slipped jail staff to find, apply, and secure new jobs before the facility is closes by county administration’s July 1 goal. The county freeholders and its administration have promised to help find jobs for the 138 civilians and corrections officers working at the jail. So far, 46 corrections officers and eight civilians will remain employed with Gloucester’s Department of Corrections to transport prisoners to other jails and perform administrative duties, according to county administrator Chad Bruner.
