Nixa Cyber Crimes Unit Tracks Online Offenders Nationwide |

MISSOURI - NIXA, Mo. -- A special police team designed to catch online criminals has initiated approximately 300 cases nationwide. Lt. Jeff Romero founded the Nixa Police Dept. Cyber Crimes Unit after a workshop he attended more than three years ago piqued his interest. "I have always been interested in helping children," he said. "It just kind of went from there." Romero's team has grown to four officers, one of whom is Billy Miller. Miller said the officers are learning a lot about the habits of online predators. "Most of the time they start with adult pornography and then their interest changes," he said. "It goes into lots of different stuff but child pornography's the avenue they take." Romero and Miller said that there is no singular type of victim or offender. Online preying and child pornography happens on a much wider scale than many people can fathom.
