In the line of duty: Memorial service honors fallen law enforcement officers |

The bagpipes wailed as a cool wind blew through the Capitol courtyard Monday where hundreds of law enforcement from across Florida showed up to honor their fallen colleagues. The 31st Annual Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial paid tribute as six new names were added to the Fraternal Order of Police’s monument to honor officers killed in the line of duty. While the spirits and legacies of the fallen officers were remembered with fanfare and a 21-gun salute, the duty to honor fellow colleagues is something many wish they didn’t have to do. “I’ve been mayor of the city of Tallahassee now for 10 years, and every year I attend one of these ceremonies.
