Fayetteville takes day to honor fallen law officers |

Fayetteville is no stranger to ceremonies honoring men and women whose lives have been lost on the battlefield. They are part of life here, especially in wartime. But the memorial Tuesday at Village Baptist Church was different. It wasn't about soldiers dying on a distant battlefield. It was about our own police officers, dying in the line of duty, right here on our streets, in a battle against crime that sometimes feels overwhelming. Six law officers died on the job last year, two here in the Cape Fear region. Tuesday's ceremony honored those fallen officers and marked the national Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is held each year during national Law Enforcement Officers Week. Read More. |
