WAUSAU, WISCONSIN — Marathon County’s new sheriff intends to tackle problems at the jail head-on while taking steps immediately to restore public faith in a department that has faced intense scrutiny over the past several months. Former Chief Deputy Scott Parks was sworn in at noon Thursday as Marathon County sheriff at a ceremony held at the Marathon County Courthouse. Gov. Scott Walker appointed Parks to the position to fill the vacancy created when former Sheriff Randy Hoenisch stepped down March 20. Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Grau administered the oath of office in a courtroom filled with friends, family members, community leaders and law enforcement personnel from virtually every jurisdiction in the county.
