Prison mental health workers seek 25 percent raise |

OREGON - A group of mental health workers in the Department of Corrections is asking the state for a 25 percent raise, an increase almost unheard of in today’s political climate. The proposal from the employees’ union would boost some mental health workers’ starting salaries to $58,236 and their maximum salaries to increase to $80,964 — salary increases of 25.75 percent and 26.63 percent, respectively. The proposal is outlined in an email exchange obtained by the Statesman Journal. The raise discussed in the emails has been in talks for two years, ever since the state created two job classifications for mental health workers. One of them requires a master’s degree and carries more responsibilities. The other requires only a bachelor’s degree.
