Area law officers honored for facing danger 'head on' |

DAYTONA BEACH — As the suspect fired shots at Officer Joshua Mesereau, it wasn't his life or the lives of his fellow officers he was thinking about — it was the lives of college students on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campus the suspect was about to enter. "He really prevented a tragedy that could've happened," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood, who nominated Mesereau. "Josh is cool under pressure." Mesereau was one of 15 law enforcement officers from Volusia and Flagler counties who were honored by Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida during the 15th Annual Community Banquet Honoring Law Enforcement.
