A spokeswoman at the Corrections Department says 24-year-old Anthony Smalls was simply "in the wrong place." Corrections officials said Tuesday that Smalls walked away from his job at a pre-release center in North Charleston

Officials say Smalls is serving a five-year sentence for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
