Deal honors fallen cops, Donald Moon |

FORSYTH — Donald Moon, one of Athens’ first black police officers killed in the line of duty 50 years ago, got some recognition Monday and his name on a wall honoring fallen officers. Moon was one of a dozen officers from across the state receiving recognition at the Public Safety Training Center, where the wall graces a courtyard. Seven of the officers were killed last year, including three from the Atlanta Police Department and a Department of Corrections officer. Gov. Nathan Deal presented framed certificates to representatives of each officer’s family. “I would hope that there would come a day when we won’t have to have an event like today,” he told them.
