Ohio Department of Corrections says violent rules infractions for inmates have decreased |

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An initiative to combat violence in Ohio's 28 prisons has helped to reduce gang violence and improve worker safety, prison officials say. Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections officials said violent rule infractions have decreased by 7.3 percent in state prisons since last year. But while the prison system is pleased with the modest results inside prisons, local experts say problems continue to persist with prison gangs when they reenter society. Last year, Director Gary Mohr implemented a three-tiered prison system. The system places disruptive inmates, many who are involved in prison gangs, into more controlled settings, which limits their movement and access to other inmates. Inmates can work themselves to a lower security facility if they abide by rules and meet certain goals. Read More. |
