Chicago police have charged a Cook County (Ill.) correctional officer with a felony count for allegedly firing her handgun into the air during a North Side quarrel two weeks ago. Thirty-five-year-old Erica Gonzales, who has worked for the corrections department for three years, was off-duty when the incident occurred early Sept. 30. Officers say Gonzalez got into a confrontation with several other people, got out of her car and fired her weapon once into the air. No one was injured in the incident. She has been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a handgun. |
