Youth Outreach center for juvenile offenders to open in July |

ODESSA, TEXAS - Lashay Crocker had been through 32 different foster homes and group homes by the time she was 18 years old. “I was defiant and fighting a lot,” Crocker, now 21, said. Eager to gain custody back of her infant daughter, she entered a group home run by Nancy Boone in Greenville, N.C., when she was 16 years old. With help from Boone, 52, she turned her life around in a just a few years. Today, Crocker lives in Atlanta, Ga., is married to a man in the military, has two daughters and will begin nursing school in the fall. “Nancy was really nice,” Crocker said. “She helped me a lot. At the time, I was young and didn’t care what anybody had to say. Ms. Nancy never gave up. She was one of the best group homes I had been to.” Boone moved to the Permian Basin in August planning to work full-time as an insurance agent but she couldn’t stay away from helping youth for long.
