An inmate at the Albert C. Wagner Youth Correction Center in N.J. was hospitalized last week with what appeared to be stab wounds, a corrections spokesman said. Officers observed a scuffle and one inmate emerged with puncture wounds, said Matt Schuman, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections. Schuman said the inmate claimed he was stabbed with a "pen-type object." Schuman said the inmate was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, although his injuries did not appear to be serious. The inmate will be transferred to another prison when he is released from the hospital, Schuman said. The inmate's name was not released because his family had not been notified. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, Schuman said. |
