Jim Wells County Jail Struggling to Fill Correctional Officer Positions |

TEXAS - JIM WELLS COUNTY (Kiii News) - Eagle Ford Shale has created lots of new jobs in the Coastal Bend, but as we have reported, it is also making it difficult for other employers to fill positions. Often, other positions cannot measure up in terms of the amount of pay that oilfield workers can get. Kiii News Reporter Mike DaSilva went Live from Jim Wells County, where the local Sheriff's Department said they have several job openings a the jail that they just can't seem to fill. The jail is pretty much filled with inmates, but there are not enough correctional officers to handle all of them. The assistant jail administrator, Lt. Octaviano Suarez, said there are 73 inmates currently in the jail, and only 16 correctional officers. The County has been short five correctional officers since November, and are doing what they can with what they have got. Current officers are working overtime, but it does take its toll on the officers and puts stress on the entire staff, as well as the budget. Read More. |
